Broward County Mayor Barbara Sharief Wins International Women’s Leadership Community Leader Award

Broward County Mayor Barbara Sharief was the recipient of the 2017 Community Leader Award at the 6th Annual Suits, Stilettos and Lipstick (SSL) Empowerment and Leadership conference. The event was sponsored by the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Lipstick Foundation.

Mayor Sharief was on hand to accept this prestigious award:

“I am honored to be recognized as a community leader on such an amazing platform that celebrates and inspires women to step into their power and pursue their dreams”.

Mayor Sharief has also been handing out awards of late. Her “Broward Means Business” Initiative proclamations recognize successful small and medium-sized businesses from Fort Lauderdale to Tamarac and include Hollywood Eyes and Flashback Diner, to name two.

Often at the forefront of community engagement and advocacy, Barbara Sharief has offered inspiring leadership to many women entrepreneurs through the years as an owner of a successful business and a leading political figure in South Florida.

Broward County Mayor Barbara Sharief Responds to Report on Fort Lauderdale Airport Shooting

(Fort Lauderale) August 18, 2017

The January 6, 2017 shooting at Fort Lauderdale airport which resulted in 5 deaths was recently investigated by an independent consultant. Broward County Mayor Barbara Sharief  was joined by Commissioners Steve Geller, Chip LaMarca, and Michael Udine along with Broward County Administrator Bertha Henry, Aviation Director & CEO Mark Gale and Broward Sheriff Scott Israel at a news conference that released the report and addressed its conclusions.

The main points of the report include the response by law enforcement officials and subsequent security measures that were taken by local authorities.

The press conference, with video below, addressed many questions surrounding the tragedy including the relationship between TSA and the Broward County Sheriff’s office.

Interestingly, there are no redactions by Broward County authorities and it was released to the public in its entirety.

Broward County Mayor Barbara Sharief Featured in Your South Florida PBS Video

Your South Florida is a PBS Program designed to offer viewers an insider’s look at the cultural and political life of Broward, Palm Beach and Miami-Dade counties. Broward County Mayor Barbara Sharief was recently featured in the interview-style program hosted by Pam Giganti.

Ms. Sharief’s appearance is the subject of a new video on Youtube, hosted by the official Youtube page of Your South Florida. You can watch the video here:
